ELM 327 interfaces
« on: October 14, 2013, 11:38:53 »
There are many different ELM 327 interfaces on the market.
Mainly, they can be divided on two different groups - version 1.4/1.4+ and version 1.5.
For our app the interface ver. 1.4 is highly recommended.

Here are some pictures of different ELM interfaces with comments.

These both chinese interfaces have version 1.4 and look very similar. On the left - new type, on the right - old type.

New type
This interface was purchased recently from China, it has PIC microcontroller, BT name - OBDII. So far works good with our app.

Old type
This interface was purchased recently from China about 2 years ago. It has, probably, the same PIC microcontroller, as original ELM327, BT name - CHX. In my opinion, this is a best available interface for our app.

Artur, as per Google Play ScanMyOpel description, have you done the following on either of your two BT devices?

"Attention!!
Please connect together pins 7, 3 and 12 in your ELM 327 interface.
On some model diagnostic of AT/ABS can be connected to pin 3 or 12 in the OBD plug. Since in ELM only used pin 7, you may not get connected to other modules."

Берём китайский елм, перепаиваем микросхему на заказанную с дага про оригинальную последней версии за 20 баксов и радуетесь. Если есть ручки то и доделать можно.

Hello !

I want to use ScanMyOpel on Android (now I have LITE version for test) to connect to Opel CORSA B year 2000.
I have bought a CARISTA interface fully ELM327 v1.4 compatible.
I have connected together pins 3, 7 and 12 in the Carista interface.
I can read the ECU ID and details, but nothing else, it cannot connect to ECU to check codes.
Any help welcome !
Olivier

Hello Artur !
Thanks for the rapid answer, here are the logs I took when trying to connect to the different ECUs (Engine, AT, EPS).

Make sure, you still have 12 volts on the buses, when connector is plugged. The ELM says - BUS INIT ERROR.

Hi Artur !
In the logs, I think one was taken when I was trying to connect without having turned the contact on. then I retried with contact turned on, but with no more success. Also, I can see the LED diodes on the interface whch are illuminated, which seems to indicate that power is on. One diode light when I plug the interface (permanent 12V), the other lights when I put contact on. Still, no connection to get error codes (while it perfectly gets the ECU number and details).

regards, olivier

Another question,
Can I read the log myself, when I try to read with a text editor, I can only see unreadable codes.

So the buses are powered, do you have another idea for me ? It still don't read the default codes. It says can't connect to ECU when checking for codes although it detects the ECU type and serial.

So the conclusion is : this app doesn't work for Opel Corsa B with a CARISTA, fully ELM 1.4 compatible interface.
Maybe in the future ...

Carista is fine, but with a few old engines (X16XEL, X10XE) there is some strange behaviour. The information can be read only once, then adapter replys with NO DATA, but it uses SAME request. Still not sure, what could be the problem.
